Restore Definition: Overview

To restore data, you create and save a restore definition. The restore definition specifies the following:

ModeThe underlying method by which the data is to be transferred: Block, Agentless VMware, Image, NDMP, File, or Tape.)
SourceThe data to be restored and the device it is restored from.
DestinationThe location to which the data is restored.
Source Options, Destination Options, and Job Notification OptionsRules of behavior associated with the restore. If you do not set these options, DPX uses the defaults you set during configuration.
ScheduleThe time and frequency of the restore.

You can save and manually run a job without defining a schedule.

A restore definition is required for simple one-time restores, as well as for complex, regularly scheduled restores. Once the restore definition has been specified, you must save it as a restore job.

The following are the steps required for creating a restore definition:

  1. Determining the Restore Mode
  2. Begin Defining a New Restore Job
  3. Specifying Source Data to Restore
  4. Specifying Source Device Cluster for a Restore
  5. Specifying Destinations for the Restore Job
  6. Defining Restore Options
  7. Specifying a Schedule for the Restore Job
