Microsoft Windows Remote Seeding to 7-Mode Data ONTAP

The procedure in this section illustrates how to seed a NetApp storage system for use with a primary node’s initial (Base) backup in the Windows environment.

The seeding process requires the following components:

Catalogic DPX Master Server

Coordinate backup and restore tasks on the DPX Management Interfaces.

(Microsoft Windows) primary node

The source for the base Image backup.

Tape library

To record the base Image backup to tape for physical transport.

(Microsoft Windows) spare client

A spare machine with Microsoft Windows that is part of the Enterprise.

NetApp storage systems

The destination storage where you restore the base image backups and all subsequent incremental backups. The NetApp storage systems must be part of the Enterprise.

Remote seeding is a multi-step process. Carefully track relevant behavior and record significant identification data along the way, as required for running the full process, as shown in the following table:
